Time for a Change…
NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CIRCULATE RECALL PETITION
To the Honorable Kristin Gibson: Pursuant to Section 11020, California Elections Code, the undersigned registered qualified voters of San Dieguito Union High School District Trustee, Area 5, in the State of California, hereby give notice that we are the proponents of a recall petition and that we intend to seek your recall and removal from the office of SDUHSD Trustee, Area 5, in Encinitas, California, and to demand election of a successor in that office. The grounds for the recall are as follows:
The conduct and voting record of Trustee Gibson shows that Trustee Gibson has failed her fiduciary duty to serve students and the taxpayers as a Trustee on SDUHSD Governing Board. Trustee Gibson has been fiscally irresponsible, approves decisions that disregard students’ best interests, and appears to have a conflict of interest with the teacher’s union. The following highlight some of Trustee Gibson’s conduct. Trustee Gibson: (1) approved a raise and extension of contract for Superintendent Haley during the pandemic, (2) approved a $5.2M Chromebook purchase that was rushed through the Board approval process (3) allowed Superintendent Haley to foreclose a letter grade option without getting student, parent or board input/vote, and seven weeks later she was the single Nay vote against adopting a letter grade option (4) sole source of campaign funding is from the San Dieguito Faculty Association, which is the teachers union, and does NOT represent students, (5) repeatedly spoke, and also voted, against school reopening even when all safety protocol has been met, and (6) absent from 2/3 of the last nine board meetings, without explanation to the Board. For these reasons and more, the SDUHSD community has lost confidence in the ability of Trustee Gibson to faithfully represent the best interests of SDUHSD taxpayers, community, and students.
